Three Great Stories: Kansas – Motorsport Final Word

I would make a reference to “Wizard of Oz”, but you’ve heard them all. Also, I can’t think of one for this room.

Either way, here are three great stories from Sunday’s Buschy McBusch Race 400 (no, you didn’t read it wrong) at Kansas Speedway.

Three great stories: Kansas

1. Kyle Busch overcomes personal adversity to claim first victory of the season

In addition to winning Saturday’s Camping World Truck Series race in Kansas, Kyle busch finished the weekend sweep by overtaking Kyle larson on a late restart.

Every other weekend is ‘same old, same old Rowdy’. Most weeks, however, do not also include a miscarriage.

His wife, Samantha Busch, posted an update on pregnancy on his YouTube channel on Friday. In which she revealed that she had miscarried for the second time in four years.

Of course, if you watched Kyle Busch after he got out of his car to retrieve the Checkered Flag, you’d never guess he’s been there. He performed his traditional post-race bow and motioned for the booing crowd to continue crying.

If nothing else, it shows just what an accomplished professional he is.

2. The list of winners grows, while playoff spots shrink

Make 10 different winners.

After 11 NASCAR Cup Series races in 2021, Busch has added his name to the growing list of various winners. And just like the landing slots at London Heathrow *, the number of automatic qualifying places for race winners is shrinking.

* Shout out to the six avgeeks following me who understand this.

Naturally, as the season progresses we will see diminishing returns on the various winners. At this point the only remaining driver that I see definitely winning soon is Denny hamlin.

I doubt we have 18 or 19 different race winners, but time will tell. What if i am Chase Elliott and Kevin harvick, although I didn’t necessarily press the panic button, I would sweat a bit more.

3. NASCAR safety except for non-conforming tires

Inconsistency, your name is NASCAR.

With 50 laps to go, a tire has escaped Tyler reddickthe mailbox. He rolled over the grass before and brought out a caveat.

Fifteen laps later.

That was NASCAR’s explanation for withholding the caveat.

“The tire was far enough away from the racing surface where we felt comfortable completing the pit stop sequence before recovering the tire. Ultimately, the tire had to be salvaged. “

Look, NASCAR was right to issue the warning. A tire on the track is an obvious safety hazard. But why isn’t it dangerous enough to throw out the warning right now? What else, Chris Buescher, who was in the lead when the tire went rogue, has a legitimate gripe, if he points out that NASCAR openly manipulated the race. He remained cautious, despite the obvious danger, and waited until the end of the pit cycle.

I have to ask. If that wasn’t enough danger to throw out the warning right away, then why not send an official to retrieve the tire while it’s still green?
