EUFAULA, Ala. (WSFA) – Eufaula Mayor Jack Tibbs recently visited South Korea. The mayor was on a recruitment mission for jobs. He met with five companies. Tibbs called the trip a great success.
“Two of the businesses are a perfect match for our city,” Tibbs said.
The two companies are linked to car manufacturing and together would create 500 jobs in Eufaula.
“These are companies that would make parts for electric vehicles. So you know all the car plants we have in Alabama, and there’s a new electric vehicle plant going on, I believe, in Savannah, Georgia. So we’re kind of centrally located for them to cover what’s going on in Alabama and Georgia,” Tibbs said. “So both are related to the car.”
The mayor says he will continue to build relationships with business leaders. He plans to send invitations to these companies inviting them to Eufaula.
If these companies choose Eufaula, it won’t happen overnight. A company is waiting to hear if it gets a contract with Hyundai to supply batteries for electric vehicles. They’ll find out later this year, but Tibbs says the factory to build these vehicles will take a few years.
