Frymire joins Sonder’s board of directors

According to Sonder, former CEO of travel management company CWT Michelle Frymire has joined the board of directors of short-term accommodation provider Sonder Holdings.

In May, Frymire stepped down as CEO of CWT after leading the TMC since April 2021. During his tenure, Frymire led CWT through a restructuring process that included a pre-packaged Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, which enabled the TMC to halve its debt and access $350 million. in the new capital.

Frymire joined CWT as Chief Financial Officer in January 2019 and previously held senior financial roles for Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Delta Air Lines and Continental Airlines, among others.

“Michelle is one of the foremost experts in the travel and tourism industry in the United States. Her deep experience driving global strategy as well as overseeing investments in product and technology platforms will bring strong contributions to our future development as a global hospitality leader,” Sonder co-founder and CEO Francis Davidson said in a statement.

Frymire’s TMC background brings specific business travel expertise to Sonder’s board, which the company has identified in recent months as a “huge opportunity”. Sonder went through its own restructuring process in June, but has taken several recent steps to indicate an increased focus on business travel for its long-term plans, including creating a business travel-focused sales organization and by engaging more deeply in its global distribution system strategy. .

Frymire’s appointment follows the resignation of Manon Brouillette, executive vice president and CEO of Verizon Consumer Group, from Sonder’s board of directors.
