A Tri-Cities architectural and engineering firm was packed when the owner’s wife spotted an obvious solution.

Christelle Walker-Prickett advised her husband, Harvey, to rent space in the building he was designing for Tri-Cities Insurance Professionals in Pasco.

Harvey Prickett, president and director of Wave Companies, followed his wife’s suggestion. In September, he will be moving the business from its overflowing Kennewick neighborhood to the airy 6,335-square-foot second floor above the Insurance Company at 9425 Sandifur Parkway, near Camping World.

Prickett said his wife knew the insurance company designed their new building with space to rent and that she knew he liked the building, with its modern feel, glass-walled elevator, wooden elements. warm woods, its atrium and its café on the first floor.

This summer, the insurance company, the three Wave architecture and engineering firms and their 23 employees will join another tenant, Rāǎn Coffee, west of Pasco.

The move provides space to grow as Wave responds to demand for its growing multi-family housing services and the nuclear industry.

Prickett is thrilled that her company is working in a building she designed.

“I’m pretty excited about it,” Prickett said. “The new building is open but with more amenities like a large break room, a large terrace, a much larger conference room.”

The move to Pasco brings Wave closer to the customers of its subsidiary Wave Quantum, which serves federal and nuclear contractors in Richland.

“We see the location as advantageous for us,” he said. “It’s faster on the highway and for our customers in Hanford. “

Like Wave, Tri-Cities Insurance Co. has outgrown its old neighborhoods near downtown Pasco. Co-owner Gerald Tobias said the owners plan to build for themselves and potential tenants for about five years. They chose Wave for its commitment to contemporary design to help modernize the company’s brand.

Tobias said he was inspired by his sister, an architecture student who introduced him to what an office can be. The company plans to use the foyer as a community gallery for local students.

“Our vision was to have something different, which the Tri-Cities didn’t have, especially in Pasco,” said Tobias.

Wave’s other major project is a million-dollar transportation facility for Hanford Mission Integration Services, the US Department of Energy’s new site services contractor in Hanford.

The L-907 complex will serve as a fleet service building where the new contractor will consolidate maintenance and service for automobiles, trucks and large buildings in one location. The work is part of a growing practice that seeks work at DOE sites across the country.

The Wave Group also includes its core architectural design business as well as aMOTIF, which sells products that architects and designers specify in their projects. Prickett said being able to search for design elements in-house means they aren’t removed from projects.

Pasco’s new office, for example, has a wall of petrified moss at the entrance that comes from aMOTIF.

As the firm prepares for its big move, Prickett discussed Wave’s roots in the Great Recession, its future design for public and private clients, and its take on the architecture of Tri-Cities in a recent wide-ranging interview.

Roots in a recession

Prickett was working as an architect in Alaska when the real estate bubble burst in 2007, triggering the Great Recession. When work dried up, the Prickett family moved to the Tri-Cities to be closer to family and friends and for a climate they loved.

Prickett opened Wave in Kennewick in 2009 as a sole owner.

Business was slow to take off, but grew as a housing crisis gave way to prosperity. Locally, this is fueled by spending from the Hanford Department of Energy and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

Business took off with the addition of Wave Quantum to focus on the Department of Energy and Nuclear Services.

“There are a lot of rules to follow, but if you follow them you can do well,” he said.

L’AMOTIF came later to provide the architectural materials that it specifies in its projects to prevent them from being torn off for lack of availability.

Influence on Tri-Cities

Wave’s work is exhibited across the Tri-Cities.

Recent examples include the Kenmore office buildings near Steptoe and Gage in Kennewick, the pointed rooftops of Roaster’s cafes, Bruchi’s restaurants, Country Mercantile, and countless apartment and multi-family projects.

Prickett said a Mediterranean style dominated the Tri-Cities when it first arrived. The region’s wineries and tourism industry have borrowed design from their European counterparts, but that has never lived up to Prickett, who prefers more streamlined, contemporary designs.

Googie, the futuristic style born in post-war California and embodied in Washington by the Seattle Space Needle, is the closest thing to the native architecture of the Tri-Cities, he said. The eye-catching Mid-Century Modern style can be found at Richland’s Uptown.

Designers are moving away from the heavy European look, he said with approval.

“What happened is that the people here decided that our wine culture does not have to be like that of Tuscany,” he said.

Bookwalter Winery’s $ 4 million addition to its South Richland winery and restaurant is a prime example. Wave designed the sleek structure, which takes shape along the Columbia Park Trail at Windmill Road.

“We keep the atmosphere as it is. It is not anchored in Tuscany. It is based on the uniqueness of Bookwalter. It makes it a lot of fun, ”he said.

Owner John Bookwalter said he needed a building that was practical but flexible enough to complement his restaurant, tasting room and cellar, which are all on the same property.

The result is a predominantly rectangular building with windows, decorative ornaments, and an ornamental wall to lessen the impact of the main wall.

“The way I think of what we’ve tried to design is the way I think of Washington wines,” Bookwalter explained. “Washington wines do not fit into a construction of Bordeaux or California only. We’re somewhere in the middle. It’s up to us to decide what it looks like.

Prickett and client TMT Homes are pushing the boundaries of “modern” with a proposed residential project for South Richland. Skyhous, a luxury condominium project, will travel to the town of Richland for a conditional use permit in June.

If approved, it will add 48 state-of-the-art units to the upper slopes of Little Badger Mountain, near the newest Friends of Badger Mountain summit trail.

Wave Design Group designed Skyhous for TMT Homes. If approved, the 48-unit luxury condominium will bring ultra-contemporary design to the upper slopes of Little Badger Mountain in Richland. (Courtesy of Wave Design Group)

Skyhous features a flat, compact building style with concrete and glass, rooftop terraces, water features, and a slope-hugging layout. Guests and residents will access the upper floors not by elevator but by tram.

“When I first moved here it wouldn’t have been a possibility,” said Prickett.

Match Recap: Astros vs. Red Sox – June 10, 2021 https://siestarvpark.com/match-recap-astros-vs-red-sox-june-10-2021/ https://siestarvpark.com/match-recap-astros-vs-red-sox-june-10-2021/#respond Fri, 11 Jun 2021 03:02:43 +0000 https://siestarvpark.com/match-recap-astros-vs-red-sox-june-10-2021/

With a chance to sweep that three-game streak against Boston, Houston tried to replicate the success of the first two games Thursday night against the Red Sox. Instead, the Astros would fail in a slug festival where the Houston reliever pen once again gave up too many leads.

Final score: Red Sox 12, Astros 8

Astros Record: 35-27, second in the AL West

Winning pitcher: Darwinzon Hernandez (1-2)

Losing pitcher: Blake Taylor (0-1)

Greinke only lasts three rounds

After scoring a full one-point game in his last start against the Blue Jays, Zack Greinke would have a disappointing start in this one against the Red Sox. After a 1-2-3 first, Boston netted two runs against him in the second, one on a single run batted in and another on a loaded walk, as they would send eight batters over home plate into the frame.

They scored two more in the next inning, with a solo first homer, then a two-strikeout RBI single, pushing him out of the game after using 64 throws to get through those three innings. Its final line: 3.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HR, 64P.

Both teams continue to exchange points

Those four points lost the Astros 4-3 as they were able to achieve three of theirs in that span on a Yuli Gurriel solo homerun in the second and two RBIs by Yordan Alvarez in the third. Houston regained the lead early in the fifth, scoring four points on a goal-laden walk by Gurriel and a two-run double RBI by Kyle Tucker with one run scoring from an error in the same play, bringing the score to 7. -4.

Boston tied the game late in the inning, scoring two goals against Brandon Bielak on two singles to set up a three-run homerun to make it 7-7 before the sixth. Early in the inning, Jose Altuve put Houston back in the lead with a solo homerun to make it 8-7, but Boston hit back with a big inning.

The Astros abandon the final

Blake Taylor started in the bottom of the sixth trying to complete at least one end, but instead allowed a fly bag error before coming away with two outs. Enoli Paredes came in to try and get the latter out, but he wouldn’t be able to do so, allowing four runs, one each on a base-loaded shot per throw and walk, then a two-run double RBI to spread their new one. advance to 12-8.

After a scoreless seventh and eighth, Houston would watch the four-point deficit advance to the final at the top of the ninth as Boston save a game in this series to avoid the sweep. The loss keeps Houston behind Oakland, for now, atop the AL West standings as the Astros continue to try to pass them for the division lead.

Following: Houston will end this nine-game road trip with a three-game set at Minnesota against the Twins, starting with the opener at 7:10 p.m. Central Friday. Jose Urquidy (4-3, 3.76 ERA) will be looking to secure the win for the Astros, while Matt Shoemaker (2-7, 7.28 ERA) will be on the mound for the Twins.

Superstar Racing Experience: Driver lineup announced for inaugural SRX race at Stafford Speedway https://siestarvpark.com/superstar-racing-experience-driver-lineup-announced-for-inaugural-srx-race-at-stafford-speedway/ https://siestarvpark.com/superstar-racing-experience-driver-lineup-announced-for-inaugural-srx-race-at-stafford-speedway/#respond Wed, 09 Jun 2021 21:32:00 +0000 https://siestarvpark.com/superstar-racing-experience-driver-lineup-announced-for-inaugural-srx-race-at-stafford-speedway/

After considerable hype and build-up over the past year, the Superstar Racing Experience is finally ready to go: this weekend at Stafford Speedway some of the best to ever get into a race car will go head to head during the inaugural race of the Camping World SRX Series. And true to its bill, the first race for SRX features a star-studded field of 12 drivers ready to tackle the historic half-mile of Stafford Springs, Connecticut.

On Wednesday, SRX Racing announced the driver lineup for the first race of the season, which includes full-time SRX drivers as well as some others. The starting field for the 100-lap feature will later be defined through a pair of 15-minute qualifying races, with all on-track action starting at 8 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount +.

Here is the full lineup of drivers for the first race of the SRX series:

# 2 – Ernie Francis Jr. – Road racer by training, Ernie Francis Jr. will be the youngest driver in the peloton at just 23 years old. Francis is already an accomplished racer in Trans-Am competition, having won five championships in the TA3A, TA4 and TA classes. He also participated sporadically in NASCAR.

# 3 – Hélio Castronèves – Great single-seater driver and Indianapolis 500 legend, Castroneves joins SRX barely out of his latest feat, and perhaps the most remarkable, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Just a few weeks ago, Castroneves won his fourth Indy 500 at the age of 46, tying the record for most wins in racing history.

# 9 – Bill Elliott – After taking a step back while his son Chase was preparing to become a NASCAR champion, “Awesome Bill from Dawsonville” is back behind the wheel of his famous number 9. Elder Elliott has a career in the NASCAR Hall of Fame that includes the 1988 Winston Cup Championship and two Daytona 500 wins in 1985 and 1987.

# 10 – Doug Coby – Hailing from Milford, Connecticut, Doug Coby will be the first of the famous short trackers to have the opportunity to race SRX. The 41-year-old went on to become one of the all-time greats of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, winning six championships in NASCAR’s longest-serving division.

# 13 – Tony Kanaan – One of the great open-wheel racers of the past 20 years, Tony Kanaan is one of IndyCar’s longest-serving statesmen and continues his career in SRX. Highlights of Kanaan’s career include an IndyCar Championship in 2004 and an Indianapolis 500 victory in 2013.

# 13 – Paul Tracy – Known as “The Thrill from West Hill”, Paul Tracy has enjoyed a long and successful racing career, his greatest achievements being in open wheel competition. Tracy won the CART Championship in 2003 and is credited with a second place finish in the 2002 Indianapolis 500 – a result that has become one of the biggest controversies in racing history, as Tracy did what ‘he thought he was the winning pass by the time a late warning came out and Helio Castroneves was scored as a leader.

# 14 – Tony Stewart – One of the creators of SRX, “Smoke” does not need to be introduced: he is one of the great racers of his time, starting his career in open wheel competition before winning three Cup championships into a NASCAR Hall of Fame career. Stewart has become one of the most prominent figures in grassroots racing, and his involvement with SRX adds to a portfolio that also includes ownership of Eldora Speedway.

# 15 – Michael Waltrip – After retiring from the 2017 Daytona 500, Michael Waltrip returns to the wheel with the # 15 which has become the most important of his driving career. Waltrip’s crowning glory in a long NASCAR career came in the Daytona 500, which he won in 2001 and 2003.

# 17 – Willy T. Ribbs – A racing pioneer, Willy T. Ribbs was accomplished and provocative in a racing career that spanned sports cars, open wheel cars and stock cars. Ribbs became the first African-American driver to accomplish a number of feats, such as qualifying for the Indianapolis 500, and won 17 races during his career in Trans-Am competition.

# 18 – Bobby Labonte – Following in the footsteps of his brother Terry, Bobby Labonte was one of NASCAR’s top drivers in the 1990s and 2000s and raced until the 2010s. Labonté scored 21 career Cup Series victories and also won the Winston Cup Championship in 2000.

# 69 – Greg Biffle – One of SRX’s “ringtones”, Greg Biffle has a long list of accomplishments in all three of NASCAR’s National Touring Series. After winning the championship in the Craftsman Truck (2000) and Busch (2002) series, Biffle had a Cup career that saw him visit Victory Lane 19 times and score a better second place in points in 2005.

# 98 – Marco Andretti – The third generation of the Andretti racing family, Marco Andretti arrives at SRX after reducing his IndyCar racing list. Andretti drove full time in IndyCar from 2006 to 2020, notching two career victories and taking pole for the Indianapolis 500 in 2020.

Deric Kramer’s outbreak seems to make an immediate impression on Epping’s first appearance https://siestarvpark.com/deric-kramers-outbreak-seems-to-make-an-immediate-impression-on-eppings-first-appearance/ https://siestarvpark.com/deric-kramers-outbreak-seems-to-make-an-immediate-impression-on-eppings-first-appearance/#respond Tue, 08 Jun 2021 15:41:48 +0000 https://siestarvpark.com/deric-kramers-outbreak-seems-to-make-an-immediate-impression-on-eppings-first-appearance/

Pro Stock hasn’t visited New England Dragway since 2018, something that will change at this weekend’s New England TascaParts.com NHRA National Championships presented by Bandero Premium Tequila.

For Deric Kramer, however, race six of the 2021 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season marks the first time he has visited the facility. After his first final round of the year to continue his strong start to the season, Kramer hopes to make a good first impression in front of what should be another huge crowd.

“It’s very exciting. It’s always fun to go to a new place,” Kramer said. “Having people there and excited, it’s going to be awesome.”

A start on a new track always increases the energy level, and the way Kramer behaves in his Chevrolet Camaro Get Biofuel, it can also be a favorable start to the New England Dragway.

His final round performance in Houston propelled him to second in points behind Greg Anderson, and that also marked his second final of 2021. Add two more semi-final appearances and Kramer has already had more success this year than all year 2020.

He struggled a year ago, reaching only one semi-final and finishing 10th on points in a strong Pro Stock field.

A good start opens up a world of possibilities, and Kramer praised his car’s performance, as well as a few fortuitous breaks he took advantage of earlier in the year.

“We ended up having a bit of luck on our side. The class is so tight and so tight that I’ve been on the wrong side for the past two years, ”said Kramer, four-time winner of the event. “We go to every race with the intention of winning. You don’t come forward thinking that there is only an outside shot. We present ourselves with the mentality of renting one of the best powers on the market [with KB Racing], so let’s go around and win races. If we don’t, then the responsibility falls on us. All I can say is that we are hungry for victory.

While the car has performed at a high level for most of the year, qualifying second in Atlanta, Kramer expects more from himself behind the wheel.

He feels late, in part because he hasn’t been so active away from the track due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This put an end to many sports activities he enjoys, such as fencing, as they are done in groups and he has had to find other ways to stay in shape.

Recently, this has led to more outdoor training and Kramer expects to return to normal activities soon, which he hopes will pave the way for a great summer for the team.

“The car is way past me right now, and it’s not even close. I haven’t done a great job this year, ”Kramer said. “I have to step it up. I try to do more and try harder to exercise and be physically active so hope that helps. Our best race has always been in the summer so we are looking to build on our start and perform at a high level this summer.

SPEEDWAY LEGEND JOINS THE NASCAR TRUCK SERIES DIRT RACE https://siestarvpark.com/speedway-legend-joins-the-nascar-truck-series-dirt-race/ https://siestarvpark.com/speedway-legend-joins-the-nascar-truck-series-dirt-race/#respond Sat, 05 Jun 2021 23:31:09 +0000 https://siestarvpark.com/speedway-legend-joins-the-nascar-truck-series-dirt-race/

Speedway legend Donny Schatz will make his third level NASCAR Camping World Truck (NCWTS) series debut on Knoxville Raceway dirt on July 9.

Schatz will drive the # 17 Ford for David Gilliland Racing, a participation that was led by 2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick, among others.

This will be the first time that Schatz, 10-time World Outlaw Champion (WoO), will compete in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

The Dirt Genie is optimistic he can convert his sprint car success to NASCAR.

“I am incredibly excited to be competing in my first NASCAR sanctioned event as part of David Gilliland Racing,” said Schatz. “I had the opportunity to meet David and his organization’s track record speaks for itself.

“DGR has a great group of people working with their team and I can’t wait to make my NASCAR Camping World Truck Series debut with them at Knoxville Raceway in July.

“The fact that my first NASCAR sanctioned event will take place on land and in a truck fits in perfectly with my career path.

“To make my Truck Series debut in Knoxville, a place that has been so good to me over the years is also very fitting. I hope to represent our partners and the sprint car community well.

While the upcoming NCWTS race in Knoxville is Schatz’s first time competing in a NASCAR National Series race, he certainly doesn’t lack experience at the venue.

He racked up 27 career wins on the track, including 17 in WoO and 10 triumphs at the Knoxville Nationals between 2006 and 2017.

“Donny is a legend in the off-road car world and has an incredible track record in Knoxville in the outlaw world,” said David Gilliland.

“His level of experience and knowledge of track racing and the Knoxville Raceway will make him a great addition to the team for the very first truck race there. We are very happy to welcome her on board.

Although this is the first NASCAR Truck Series dirt race on the site, it is not for the series. The series held an annual dirt tour of Eldora Speedway from 2013 to 2019.

In 2021, the first NASCAR category returned to earth for the first time since 1970 and has proven to be incredibly popular around the world.

Although well known in the United States, Schatz successfully raced Down Under. In 2002 he won the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at Warrnambool.

He was also twice runner-up in the World Series Sprintcars at the turn of the millennium.

The 10-time World Outlaw Champion teams up with David Gilliland Racing on the dirt track. Speaking of which, it couldn’t have been a more fitting venue for his NASCAR debut. Suffice it to say that he has a good chance of a decent finish on the track due to his pedigree on gravel, with 27 career wins at Knoxville.

Schatz is thrilled to make his NASCAR debut in familiar territory

The driver admitted that he was happy that his first NASCAR race was on clay. That’s because it fits perfectly with his own line of work in the World of Outlaws arena. DGR co-owner David Gilliland praised the driver and called him a legend in the off-road world. He also acknowledged that Donny Schatz boasts of an incredible track record in Knoxville in the outlaw world.
