Darnell returns to the truck series with his niece https://siestarvpark.com/darnell-returns-to-the-truck-series-with-his-niece/ https://siestarvpark.com/darnell-returns-to-the-truck-series-with-his-niece/#respond Tue, 04 May 2021 00:59:03 +0000 https://siestarvpark.com/darnell-returns-to-the-truck-series-with-his-niece/

Erik Darnell will return to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this weekend at Darlington Raceway.

MOORESVILLE, NC – Erik Darnell will return to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for the first time since 2008 this weekend at Darlington (SC) Raceway aboard the No.45 Niece Motorsports Chevrolet.

Darnell’s participation will be sponsored by Northern Tool + Equipment, the same company that sponsored him for his two NASCAR Camping World Truck Series wins, which took place in 2007 and 2008. Entry # 45 will feature a system back to commemorate these victories.

“I’m delighted to be back behind the wheel in the Truck series, especially with an organization of this caliber,” said Darnell. “The support of Northern Tool + Equipment is very important to me. Darlington is a tough, but fun trail so Friday night should be a good time. Thanks to Al Niece for this opportunity. “

Darnell has 76 starts in the Truck Series between 2004-2008 with two wins, three poles, 16 top-five and 32 top-10. In addition to his Truck Series experience, Darnell has 52 NASCAR Xfinity Series starts from 2008 to 2012, with one pole, two top-five and five top-10.

“I’m so excited to have Erik behind the wheel of one of these Niece Motorsports Chevrolets,” said Niece Motorsports General Manager Cody Efaw. “We’ve been trying to get him into a truck for a few years, so I’m glad we finally got to do it.

Three Great Stories: Kansas – Motorsport Final Word https://siestarvpark.com/three-great-stories-kansas-motorsport-final-word/ https://siestarvpark.com/three-great-stories-kansas-motorsport-final-word/#respond Sun, 02 May 2021 23:45:33 +0000 https://siestarvpark.com/three-great-stories-kansas-motorsport-final-word/

I would make a reference to “Wizard of Oz”, but you’ve heard them all. Also, I can’t think of one for this room.

Either way, here are three great stories from Sunday’s Buschy McBusch Race 400 (no, you didn’t read it wrong) at Kansas Speedway.

Three great stories: Kansas

1. Kyle Busch overcomes personal adversity to claim first victory of the season

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – MAY 2: # 18 M & M’s Mix Toyota driver Kyle Busch loses after winning the NASCAR Cup Series Buschy McBusch Race 400 at Kansas Speedway on May 2, 2021, in Kansas City, Kansas. Photo credit: James Gilbert / Getty Images

In addition to winning Saturday’s Camping World Truck Series race in Kansas, Kyle busch finished the weekend sweep by overtaking Kyle larson on a late restart.

Every other weekend is ‘same old, same old Rowdy’. Most weeks, however, do not also include a miscarriage.

His wife, Samantha Busch, posted an update on pregnancy on his YouTube channel on Friday. In which she revealed that she had miscarried for the second time in four years.

Of course, if you watched Kyle Busch after he got out of his car to retrieve the Checkered Flag, you’d never guess he’s been there. He performed his traditional post-race bow and motioned for the booing crowd to continue crying.

If nothing else, it shows just what an accomplished professional he is.

Three great stories: Kansas

2. The list of winners grows, while playoff spots shrink

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – MAY 2: # 4 Busch Light For The Farmers Ford driver Kevin Harvick drives during the NASCAR Cup Series Buschy McBusch Race 400 at Kansas Speedway on May 02, 2021, in Kansas City, Kansas. Photo credit: Sean Gardner / Getty Images

Make 10 different winners.

After 11 NASCAR Cup Series races in 2021, Busch has added his name to the growing list of various winners. And just like the landing slots at London Heathrow *, the number of automatic qualifying places for race winners is shrinking.

* Shout out to the six avgeeks following me who understand this.

Naturally, as the season progresses we will see diminishing returns on the various winners. At this point the only remaining driver that I see definitely winning soon is Denny hamlin.

I doubt we have 18 or 19 different race winners, but time will tell. What if i am Chase Elliott and Kevin harvick, although I didn’t necessarily press the panic button, I would sweat a bit more.

Three great stories: Kansas

3. NASCAR safety except for non-conforming tires

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – MAY 2: # 2 Ford Verizon 5G driver Brad Keselowski and # 24 Chevrolet Axalta driver William Byron lead the peloton to start the NASCAR Cup Series Buschy McBusch Race 400 at Kansas Speedway on May 02, 2021 , in Kansas City, Kansas. Photo credit: James Gilbert / Getty Images

Inconsistency, your name is NASCAR.

With 50 laps to go, a tire has escaped Tyler reddickthe mailbox. He rolled over the grass before and brought out a caveat.

Fifteen laps later.

That was NASCAR’s explanation for withholding the caveat.

“The tire was far enough away from the racing surface where we felt comfortable completing the pit stop sequence before recovering the tire. Ultimately, the tire had to be salvaged. “

Look, NASCAR was right to issue the warning. A tire on the track is an obvious safety hazard. But why isn’t it dangerous enough to throw out the warning right now? What else, Chris Buescher, who was in the lead when the tire went rogue, has a legitimate gripe, if he points out that NASCAR openly manipulated the race. He remained cautious, despite the obvious danger, and waited until the end of the pit cycle.

I have to ask. If that wasn’t enough danger to throw out the warning right away, then why not send an official to retrieve the tire while it’s still green?

Dominant performance key to memorable victory for Greg Anderson in Atlanta final https://siestarvpark.com/dominant-performance-key-to-memorable-victory-for-greg-anderson-in-atlanta-final/ https://siestarvpark.com/dominant-performance-key-to-memorable-victory-for-greg-anderson-in-atlanta-final/#respond Sun, 02 May 2021 22:02:09 +0000 https://siestarvpark.com/dominant-performance-key-to-memorable-victory-for-greg-anderson-in-atlanta-final/

Greg Anderson had the moment when he wanted to shut down Atlanta Dragway.

The longtime star finished a dominant performance at the Southern Nationals Lucas Oil NHRA this weekend, overtaking Vincent Nobile with a 6.568 to 209.04 on the last lap in his Denso Chevrolet Camaro. Nobile ran 6.598 to 208.78 in the losing effort.

It was a monumental victory on a number of fronts, starting with Anderson being the final winner of Pro Stock in Atlanta. It also gave Anderson his fifth victory at the Georgia House of Speed, tying him to Warren Johnson, who was honored in pre-race activities on Sunday, for the most wins in history. of Pro Stock on the track.

The end-to-end triumph also gave Anderson his 96th career victory – and second in 2021 – putting him away from Johnson for the most in Pro Stock history. Anderson will be focusing on that aspect soon enough, but his main priority on Sunday was to end his incredible run at Atlanta Dragway with a win.

“It was an absolute dream weekend. My Denso Chevy, it was absolutely spotless all weekend, ”Anderson said. “I’ve never had four smoother and more enjoyable races than this one. It was just a great day and a storybook affair. There is a lot of history here and I love to run here. Tying up Warren and going out with five each is great. It was a dream, it was wonderful and I want to thank everyone who helped us.

Anderson won in Gainesville to open the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season, and he may have outdone himself with this weekend’s performance. After qualifying No.1, he kept a pace no one could match, going from 6.560 to 209.82, 6.571 to 209.46 and 6.575 to 208.59 to reach the final round. Only Erica Enders made it interesting, posting a reaction time of 0.009 in the semi-finals. But Anderson passed her before the half track and qualified for victory in the final.

In his first race since the 2018 season, Nobile enjoyed a welcome comeback, advancing to his 26th final round with a series of upheavals. He toppled Troy Coughlin Jr., Aaron Stanfield and Deric Kramer to meet Anderson, but the veteran was just too much in the championship round.

Hill rides remarkable comeback for Kansas podium race https://siestarvpark.com/hill-rides-remarkable-comeback-for-kansas-podium-race/ https://siestarvpark.com/hill-rides-remarkable-comeback-for-kansas-podium-race/#respond Sun, 02 May 2021 16:48:58 +0000 https://siestarvpark.com/hill-rides-remarkable-comeback-for-kansas-podium-race/

Austin Hill executed a phenomenal rally after battling a strong vibration to finish third at Kansas Speedway on Saturday night. True to character, No.16 driver Gunma Toyopet Toyota Tundra remained relentless after being scored as low as 30th to fight for victory in an overtime restart and collected his third podium of the season. The finish also took him to third in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series points standings after seven of 22 events.

The former Kansas winner started the night from seventh place and instantly flaunted his aggressiveness as he took fifth place in the first round. Rising temperatures forced Hill to relinquish fifth place to clear debris from the grid of his Tundra, but still managed to collect five points in sixth at the end of the first stage on lap 30.

A lightning-fast four-tire stoppage on stage bail helped Hill gain two places and put him in first position for extra points in Stage 2. Hill chose to start fifth on lap 38 and immediately climbed into the top three. A few laps after the restart, Hill let the HRE team know that he felt a vibration build up and he also faced a lack of lateral grip in the rear. He still managed to wear the Gunma Toyopet Tundra to finish fourth in Stage 2 and got seven points in the 60th round.

Under the stage warning, Hill reported that the engine was missing and the vibrations were intensifying. The HRE team chose to surrender their track position and attempted to diagnose the problem under the hood. Hill returned to the track to restart 24e on lap 68 and was able to climb to 11e despite the persistent problem that stole the raw speed of his Tundra. He ran in 13e on lap 95 when team manager Scott Zipadelli called him to pit under the green for a four tire pit stop and started at 11e on lap 120. A timely warning flew on lap 128 which allowed Hill to take four new tires and line up 11e for an overtime restart. He managed to climb to sixth place in less than a U-turn due to an accident involving several trucks next to him.

Hill restarted fifth for the final overtime restart on round 139 and made a daring move of three wide to challenge the white flag header. While continuing to cope with the big vibrations, Hill capped his remarkable comeback to finish third for his sixth consecutive podium on a 1.5 mile track.

Quote from Austin Hill:

“We really didn’t fully diagnose the problem, but we had a really good, solid Gunma Toyopet Toyota Tundra all night. You had to work on it to be able to win the race. After the second step, it started to interrupt me. It just wasn’t working properly, so we walked in, checked all the outlets, checked everything, reset the main switch and all that. We couldn’t find anything and I reset the main switch and got out. It seemed okay, but it still wasn’t great to shift the gears. This last reboot I’m glad I got a push from whoever was behind me because it was so slow on reboots and all that last green-white checkerboard, I was wide open. Just didn’t lift. I had Ross (Chastain) really tight on my door sucking on both of us. That’s all I had. I wish he had ridden and somehow blocked Kyle (Busch) so we could race against each other, but that’s what it is. Solid effort to come back and finish where we did. Just spades, I want to win.

On her first return to a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series track, Hailie Deegan had the best result of her career.

Deegan made her Kansas Speedway debut last fall. In the Clean Harbors 200, she finished 16th despite an accident halfway through the race. When the David Gilliland Racing driver returned to the 1.5 mile track, she picked up where she left off.

The native of Temecula, Calif., Finished the second stage of the Wise Power 200 in 10th place. This gave Deegan’s # 1 Toter / Engine Ice Ford F-150 momentum in the final stage. She quietly kept her nose clean as she climbed into marching order. As the race neared the end, Deegan had climbed to ninth place after the pit stop cycle was over. An end-of-race warning for Jennifer Jo Cobb set up a restart in overtime.

Upon restart, Deegan, along with Ben Rhodes, Kyle Busch and others, were swarmed with those who spoke out about scuffed tires. Coming out of the second corner, Stewart Friesen turned and picked up Derek Kraus. Deegan narrowly avoided the incident. Under the warning that followed, it stung too much for scuffed tires and adjustments. Team leader Mike Hillman Jr. pumped up the tire pressure in an effort to gain a position on the restart.

Despite the cooler tires, Deegan didn’t get the same jump in the second overtime restart that others did in the first. The jockey for the position boxed the 19-year-old in the outside lane. When the checkered flag waved, Deegan was 13th.

With the first two stages careless, Deegan climbed up in the running order. At the end of stage 1, she was 15th on the track. Without training or qualifications, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rookie of the Year candidate built on her previous experience in Kansas.

13th place is the first top 15 in Deegan’s Truck Series career. This is only his eighth career start and marked his third career lead.

The top 15 also moved Deegan from 18th in the points standings to 16th. She is 55 points from the playoff cutoff, held by Johnny Sauter. Deegan is 201 points behind leader John Hunter Nemechek.

In the battle for Rookie of the Year honors, Deegan is third, 36 points behind Chandler Smith, who leads the rookie standings. Carson Hocevar is second in the rookie standings, two points behind Smith.

Now, the David Gilliland Racing rider will look to build on that momentum in her maiden start at Darlington Raceway in the Liftkitsforless.com 200 on Friday May 7th.

Kyle Busch wins Camping World Trucks victory in Kansas https://siestarvpark.com/kyle-busch-wins-camping-world-trucks-victory-in-kansas/ https://siestarvpark.com/kyle-busch-wins-camping-world-trucks-victory-in-kansas/#respond Sat, 01 May 2021 21:41:51 +0000 https://siestarvpark.com/kyle-busch-wins-camping-world-trucks-victory-in-kansas/

Statistically speaking, Kyle Busch had a perfect night at Kansas Speedway on Friday, scoring both stage wins in the Wise Power 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, leading the most laps and taking his series record 61st trophy.

But the veteran had to earn that cheerful finish, rallying from a starting position in fourth in the final overtime restart to take the lead in a three-wide battle. He eventually led the last two laps to take the checkered 0.665 seconds over Ross Chastain. It was Busch’s second win of the season. He won or finished second of his four Truck Series races this season.

RELATED: Full results

Despite the dominance of Busch’s # 51 Toyota Kyle Busch Motorsports, he was on the radio with his team during the last race warning, fearing that there had been some kind of technical glitch with his truck. But down the green, he maneuvered around the trucks ahead of Chastain and Austin Hill, pulling away on the last lap.

Busch’s victory marks the fifth in a row this season for his Kyle Busch Motorsports. His 59 laps lead were the most significant of the night. This is Busch’s third victory in his last four starts at Kansas.

“No reboots actually happened tonight, I was shocked we definitely missed something just to be able to step up and start,” said the Las Vegas native who turns 37 on Sunday.

“It just wouldn’t do. These guys would just invade us. I think we saw him one of the restart with the 4 trucks (Nemechek) too he got run over. So overall great job from KBM and Toyota, TRD, this Cessna Beechcraft Tundra was awesome. “

Hill was third, behind Busch and Chastain. Christian Eckes and Busch’s teammate John Hunter Nemechek completed the top five. Todd Gilliland, Zane Smith, Raphael Lessard, Johnny Sauter and Ben Rhodes completed the top 10.

Series rookie Hailie Deegan was career 13th and climbed to eighth place, before taking on herself just before the final restart.

As with Busch, at one point Hill was worried about his truck’s performance – he pitched twice on the first break, but he steadily moved up the field. Last year’s regular season champion, Hill hasn’t won since September 2020 and the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway is statistically his best track.

“I thought I had done everything right on that reboot, threw him on the apron and saw Chastain come up to block whoever was coming outside and get next to him and from there, it was a drag race, I was wide open. green-white checkered pattern, ”said Hill, adding,“ Good finish, finishing third with everything we had. I want to win so badly, so really frustrating at the moment.

With fifth place, Nemechek – winner of two races in 2021 – maintains a 33-point lead over compatriot Ben Rhodes, winner of two races, in the championship standings. And that was good enough to earn Nemechek Kyle Busch Motorsports # 4 team a $ 50,000 “road crew” mid-season bonus from the Camping World series sponsor.

The next race in the series, the LiftKits4Less.com 200 at Darlington (SC) Raceway will take place Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. (FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).

Notes: The race winner Toyota No. 51 Kyle Busch Motorsports by Kyle Busch has passed the NASCAR post-race inspection.

Almost immediately, Robert Hight noticed a different energy on Saturday at Atlanta Dragway. With the final race of the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series taking place on-site during this weekend’s NHRA Lucas Oil Southern Nationals, fans have rallied for the memorable final event at the House of Georgia Speed.

The surge of energy from a crowded grandstand brought a smile to Hight, who is looking to claim his fourth Atlanta win in Funny Car on Sunday.

“It’s exciting. You turn on the TV and it’s nowhere like that. I went to a Dodger game last Saturday and hadn’t been in a year and a half. They only allow 10 000 fans at Dodger Stadium and as a fan it’s just not the same, “said Hight.” Here there is a lot of energy and excitement, not only for the competitors but also for the fans.

“I think it’s a combination of people tired of being home and locked in and wanting to be, and then there’s (the fact) it’s the last race. There are probably a lot of people who went to a lot of southerners and they really wanted to get to the last one.

Hight enjoyed it, in part because of the memories he made on the track. Beyond his trio of wins, he saw Ashley Force Hood make history in 2008 and was part of the John Force squad, which enjoyed a dominant race in Atlanta, before taking on his role as a pilot. .

The goal now is to be Atlanta’s final winner, which would mean a lot to Hight given his appreciation for the sport’s vast history.

“I’ve won a lot of races here and I’ve been very lucky here,” said Hight, who has 51 career wins. “I was here as a teammate when Ashley won to be the first woman to win Funny Car. I have worked on John’s car for many years here. It would be great to say that we won the last race here for a lot of reasons. It would be the first victory of the year, we are back in the winner’s circle after a long period of absence, and there is only one first and one last.

After escaping most of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hight and his exceptional team are still finding their rhythm this year. There has been a lot of progress, including qualifying # 1 in Las Vegas, but there is still a long way to go.

The main thing is to strengthen the consistency of his Chevrolet Camaro Auto Club with 11,000 knockouts. If he does that, Hight is immediately as dangerous as anyone in the class and he expects his team to be ready for the eliminations on Sunday.

“We’re still a little green, but all the keys are here and we’re showing some potential,” said Hight. “We have to put everything in place on race day. We hope this is where we can do it. I know the conditions for (Sunday) are supposed to be cloudy all day, so the fans are going to get some great side-to-side and fast races.
