An unusually warm Monday in March boosts business at Oceanfront

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – The atmosphere by the ocean this Monday did not resemble a weekday in winter.

Temperatures hovered around 80 degrees and people were quick to enjoy it as winter-weary Virginians took advantage of every ray of sunshine.

“Everyone is happy to be here,” said Charles, a patron of Harvest’s rooftop bar. “Everyone is happy to enjoy the sun because, you know, it’s been cold here for the last two weeks and so when you have a day like this, you just can’t pass it up.”

Employees at Harvest, a restaurant on the corner of 18th Street and Atlantic Avenue, felt the surge in activity.

“Incredibly good for a Monday here, honestly,” bartender Kristen Templeton said. “An unexpected beautiful Monday. Everyone who came to see me today just beamed with positivity.

Some people avoided our cameras, implying that their bosses didn’t know they were at the beach.

As COVID-19 restrictions ease, days like Monday provide a glimmer of hope for how the summer season might unfold.

“I think it’s a preview of what the summer is going to hold for us. A little return to normal and we will see,” said Charles.
